In Reply to: Corbin Solo seat for '83-'99 Harley Sportster..will it fit a Savage? posted by INTRUDN on January 06, 19100 at 06:59:28:
I called Corbin a couple of weeks ago [(800)538-7035] after not finding Suzuki Savage listed on their web site. "They" claim none of their standard stock seats are compatible with the Savage (including the Harley seats). When I asked, they discouraged me from mailing/sending in my stock seat plate but stated if I brought my bike in, they would make one for me "while I wait" (in about 5 hours) at a cost of $325; Hollister, CA is about a 5-6 hour drive from me. Their objective is to fit in "on" the frame to make sure everything lines up accordingly.
NOTE: I went a step further and visited my local Harley dealer to "sit" on a Corbin seat...they are just as firm (hard) as the stock Savage seat (IF NOT HARDER-I believe a 5# -7# density). The parts guy told me you have to "break it in" kind of like a new pair of shoes and it takes about a year before it starts getting comfortable. Like shoes though, the seat will break in to the owner's (rider's) shape, so you might want to be somewhat cautious if you were planning to buy a used one.
After reading Susan Watson's posting of 8/3/99, I'm currently researching the various properties of foam rubber. As I don't want to ad any height to the seat, I plan to buy my own foam and either take it to a reupholsterer or follow Susan's directions and do-it-myself.
